About ZeaLAN (Hectic Netway)

ZeaLAN (aka Hectic Netway) was established in 2001 by the current owner, Daniel Holloway (me).

A keen interest in computers and people, and having experienced giant internet cafes in Australia, was the catalyst that veered Daniel off a course of theatre & music, and into the the IT Business.

Hectic Netway was first opened in a garage in Avenue Road West, Hastings, with only two computers (AMD K6-2 500mhz, 128mb SDram).

It was my intention always to run the internet cafe using my own custom built software called the Hectic Time Sharing Manager (created in visual basic), which I spent one year part time creating the initial version while saving money to buy the first computers.

There was always a Gaming aspect to Hectic right from the beginning, as little as it was and with anything but gaming computers. Initial titles included Counter-Strike 1.5, Hidden & Dangerous 1, and some others.

The only other competition in town at the time was Internet World charging $12.00 per hour, so Hectic charged $4.50 per hour.

This massive undercut majorly increased popularity, funding the investment of an additional two computers, and eventually forcing the business to move into a proper shop in the Hastings CBD (Studio One).

Hectic Netway operated at Studio One from 2002 to around 2007, over time increasing computer numbers to 21 at the highest point, including newer gaming computers.

Game titles also heavily increased over this period, and the Hectic Time Sharing Manager was also rebuilt 4-5 times.

Around 2007 Hectic was moved to King street north, only operating there for around 4 months, before collapsing after customer flow decreased dramatically. I gave up at that point.... and found a job elsewhere.

Hectic Netway was non existent for over one year while I focussed on establishing The Computer Doctors HB. I then re-opened Hectic accross/down the road from the original Studio One location in the CBD, at 102 Heretaunga Street EAST (next to Bollywood Stars).

Re-establishing Hectic from nothing again was a challenge and a half, but majorly helped by the loan of furniture and computers from the new landlord. I just couldnt let Hectic go.

After operating Hectic again for around one year, The Computer Doctors had been consuming a vast majority of my time and effort, forcing me to attempt to sell Hectic Netway.

Hectic Netway was eventually transferred to Louis Connolly, whom was to be purchasing the business via payment arrangement. Unfortunately after around one year or less that payment arrangement went south, putting Hectic once again in my hands.

In 2009 Hectic Netway was renamed ZeaLAN, for a fresh start, and is still working hard to provide the best internet and games service in Hawkes Bay.
